When We Couldn't Go - New for 2021 Emma J Read
I started this new series of works as we crept into the winter of 2020, we could still visit the coast and my intention was to be inspired by those winter trips. Then that freedom was taken away and living a 20 minute drive to the beach meant it was outside of what we were allowed to do. The work started to change and become much more about my memories of the sea, what it means to me and looking at it through rose tinted glasses. But still I didn't want to loose some of the darkness, mystery and fear that was part of what caused me to have to just be inspired by my memories. I'm fortunate to be able to go into my studio as a form of escapism and able to paint my happy place, so I hope I can bring some of that to your walls.

When We Couldn't go - by Emma J Read
I hope there is a time when we cant believe it happened
The invisible walls never existed
And we were left free to roam
If our happy place called we answered
Embracing , saturated and living.
I hope there is a time when we remember every single aching moment
Greetings or trips aren’t taken for granted
And we remember what it is like to live vicariously through our dreams
Longing, hopeful and waiting.
I hope there is a time when we can simply just go again
No questions, no rules, no stress and no worries
Just the wind, the salt water, the vastness and us
Crashing, dancing and singing.
