CONTEMPORARY ABSTRACT SEASCAPES

Picture

Inspired by the sea and her wild ways

Emma paints intuitively, letting the paint and its processes guide the piece. Often inspired by the sea, capturing its wild ways, calm points and stunning beauty in her abstract paintings. She hopes they'll draw you in, turn you about and have you emerging with salty hair and longing for the sea.

Whilst sat drawing on the Cornish coast as Dan hit the surf the Widow to the surf collection was born. Emma's love for the sea had always been there since growing up next to it on the Kent coast but seeing a loved one being caught its in power developed a stronger connection and emotion to it thats not yet been shaken. The poem below was coined as a response to that day and it continues to influence each artwork today.

WIDOW TO THE SURF

By Emma Read (artist)

I watch as you ride,
The soaring heights and the crashing lows,
The soft tumbles and the harsh turns,
The swirls of the chaos and of the calm.

I watch as you disappear,
The darkness comes and engulfs you,
The bright lights that glow and guide you home,
The icy cold that takes your breath and reminds you, that you are alive.

I watch as you smile,
The warmth on your skin and your sense of triumph,
The joy and exhilaration of taking on mother nature,

The power and respect for the wild seas inherent in your eyes.

Client review 2019
"I stumbled across Emma's work at Petersfield Christmas fair and I'm so glad I did. It stopped me in my tracks and drew me in in a way that rarely happens to me. I was so captivated by one particular piece that by the end of the day it was hanging in my hallway. I bought it with some money left to me by my hugely missed grandmother. I wanted something unique and special that would make me smile, as she did. The painting was perfect. I didn't even know I had been looking for this piece until I found it. The colours Emma uses are stunning, they are vibrant and lift my spirits every time I walk in the house. I can stand and look at it over and over and always find something different. I absolutely adore Emma's work and cannot wait to invest in another piece."
